New Book-Jamestown Game

Just a reminder to A.P. U.S. students, your first test on Ch. 1 is on Monday, Sept. 10. If you still have the old book in your possession, please bring it back. If you would like to access your new book, feel free to check out this website www.glencoe.com/brinkleyAP14, and peruse the student center.

In other news, concerning chapter two, remember to read and complete the "starving time" primary source account as well as the first column of the chart based on the southern colonies. For further exploration (get it?) on the topic of Jamestown, I invite you to play this entertaining game http://www.historyglobe.com/jamestown/. On the page press "Start the Adventure," keep in mind that your performance will be judged on the following:
Scoring Factors:
After you make all your decisions, you will receive a report on the state of your colony based on these factors:
  • Food: How well can you provide it for your colonists?
  • Health: Can you keep your colonists from dying due to disease, starvation, and attacks?
  • Wealth: Can you make yourself and your sponsors at the London Company rich from the discovery of gold and silver?
  • Morale: Can you keep yourself in power by keeping everyone happy?
Good luck on your adventure and your first test next week!

  1. After playing the Jamestown Game, my results showed that my colony would have faired very well! All of my categories of evaluation received a good (and an excellent in Health!). I attribute most of my colony's success to the fact that I invested more time and efforts in the cultivation of food for consumption, for it is better to have a long-enduring decent economy (2 plots of corn to one plot of tobacco) than a short-lived booming economy. Also, the location I chose for colonization was a bay, providing my colony with a good climate and a buffer against oceanic enemies.

  2. I'm glad to know you would make a good governor! You were wise not to make the same mistakes as the colonists in Jamestown. City-planning may be an optimal career choice for you!

  3. After playing the very riveting Jamestown Adventure game, I too received good in all categories choosing wisely & keeping in mind to the mistakes the colonists in Jamestown once made. Choosing the Bay Island for its protection, trading with the natives, & building homes made for morale level to be good & having a climate that was just right. Also having a variety of tobacco, maize, & wheat led to having adequate food supply along with having highly profitable crops. All in all with being promoted to Governor of Virginia & having a joyful time, The Jamestown Adventure was a rememberable experience.

  4. The Jamestown game was pretty cool. I obviously didn't make the same mistakes as the settlers. My colony had enough food, was healthy, didn't waste time in searching for gold, and not everyone was happy ( gentlemen had to work) but the colony thrived. I was promoted to Governor of Virginia ;)

  5. I enjoyed playing this game very much. It was nice that I was reviewing the information we learned in class while having fun. I was rated excellent in health, and good for all the others. It is nice to know that I would have made all the right decisions if I were in their position many years ago. I was promoted to Governor of Virginia as well!
